When you think about New Orleans, you might think about Bourbon Street and the French Quarter, Mardi Gras, delicious Cajun food & voodoo tours. Jazz music may also come to mind as NOLA is the birthplace of jazz, born out of natural cultural alchemy, a product of emotion, community, joy, and struggle that evolved over many years. Now, MVK Music Group’s newest roster addition may have you also adding them to the list of top things to come out of The Big Easy.
The hard rock / metal band Transient was the brainchild of veteran musician Jody Linnell, former bassist of Smile Empty Soul and 12 Stones. After starting out as a solo project, Linnell brought in a trio of talented friends to round out the lineup – Trey J. Mollo (vocals), Emmett Shumate (guitar), and Phil Krohn (drums). Together, this talented group is doing big things with their music as well as their live performances.
The band earned a bigger following in 2022 after playing the WCPR 97.9 CPR Fest in Biloxi, Mississippi in April, which included Nonpoint, Badflower, Seether, and 3 Doors Down. Transient went on to play at various venues on the Gulf Coast throughout the year and was selected as part of the lineup for The Sound 228 radio station’s Rockin The Sound festival scheduled for March 18th, 2023 at Point Cadet in Biloxi, along with bands such as Nonpoint, Adelita’s Way, and Gemini Syndrome. The band is ready to expand its horizons and play in other areas of the country. Anyone lucky enough to see their dynamic and energetic live performances will be an instant fan.
Transient released two amazing songs in 2022, “Sow” and “Seed”. Both tracks are off their upcoming EP, Lotus. The band’s music can be described as melodic yet powerful and heavy. The dual guitars, thunderous drums, and mesmerizing singing voice of Mollo combined with some hard vocals blend perfectly into a unique sound. There are also some electronic elements sprinkled in which keeps the listener on their toes, and the breakdowns will appeal to any metalcore fan. The band’s music seems to always be evolving and growing with each new track and there is no doubt more awesome tunes will be coming from Transient for years to come.
MVK Music Group co-owner & founder, Brian Paul – who is also the band’s manager, noted that he has been following Transient for quite some time and is excited to be working with the group of talented artists now. “I’ve known about the band for a while. I have known Jody and always appreciated what the band was doing. Their former management had referred them over to me a while back and timing finally worked out to add them to our roster”. He went on to add, “Over the last year or so, MVK has made some changes to its roster. We have and are making changes and additions in order to make it a better, stronger roster of bands that we feel people will love”.
We interviewed Transient regarding their addition to the MVK roster and what’s in store for them going forward:
What does this announcement and working with and under the guidance of MVK Music Group mean to you guys?
Transient: MVK is a very hard-working group of great people, we’ve seen what they’ve done with their artists in the past; we are definitely looking forward to see what we can do together with Transient in 2023!
How did you guys meet & how did Transient form?
Transient: We’ve all been friends for several years in separate regional projects, but we’ve never done anything together until now. I started this band out of my love for metal and my desire to get out of the alternative rock music scene.
Together with the talent of these guys I think we have definitely achieved that! -Jody
What is the ultimate direction for Transient?
Transient: We would like to continue to push boundaries, dipping into our old school, NuMetal influences and incorporating a newer wave of heavier and melodic music
Who has influenced you guys the most musically?
Transient: We take influences from all across the rock and metal spectrum, as well as many different genres, but some of our favorite bands are Wage War, Alpha Wolf, Spiritbox, and Sleep Token to name a few.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
Transient: We try to make every track we write to be fun in a live setting, energetic and bouncy with an undeniable message.
How would you describe your creative songwriting process?
Transient: We write most of our songs on the spot with no preconceived ideas. Just a general sense of where we want the song to go. We feel that keeping our minds wide open and fresh makes for the best new music.
Are there any other bands or artists that you guys would love to collaborate with?
Transient: We can’t name one honestly, although we have several we’d be honored to write/collab with.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
Transient: The Lack of an industry. 99% of artists are DIY today because of the tools we have available that we didn’t back in the day. That, and streaming. Musicians and record labels made more money back before the Internet, and fans had a more rewarding experience, because they absolutely had to attend live shows in order to see their favorite artist. The Internet is broken down all of those walls today.
What’s next for Transient? Anything you would like fans / new fans to know?
Transient: Transient continues to push onward and upwards to try to achieve our goals, which are to try to reach as many people as possible, and to get out and experience the world

Regarding what’s to come in 2023, the band states, “We’re looking to play more shows and hit areas we’ve never been before. We are constantly working on new music and will be releasing at least two new tracks in 2023 – maybe more. We look forward to a great year ahead.”
