Hailing from Joliet, Illinois, Chout carved out their identity at the intersection of post-grunge, hard rock, and alternative, channeling the grit of ’90s Seattle through a distinctly blue-collar Midwestern lens. Origin & Formation

Chout formed in Joliet / South Chicago around 2018, binding together a group of friends who had been playing music together since their early teens. This long-standing personal connection gives their music a chemistry that only years of shared experiences can forge. 

At the core of Chout was a tightly knit lineup that each played a crucial role in shaping the band’s sound. Lead singer Brendan Maier fronted the band with a powerful, emotionally charged vocal style that would later draw frequent comparisons to the late Layne Staley of Alice in Chains. Guitarist & back-up singer Matt Morgan helped define Chout’s grunge-driven edge through thick riffs and dark melodic textures, while bassist Rocco Gilsdorf anchored the band with a heavy, driving low end that gave their songs depth and weight. Behind the kit, drummer Joel Martinez provided the force and momentum that tied everything together, delivering a hard-hitting rhythm section that translated seamlessly from studio recordings to live performances. Together, the members of Chout formed a cohesive unit rooted in chemistry, grit, and a shared musical vision.

Fans praise their catalog for both nostalgia and originality — blending crushing riffs with thoughtful storytelling and a vocal performance reminiscent of one of grunge’s most iconic voices, yet firmly rooted in their own artistic voice.

Chout also holds a special place in MVK Music Group history. They were one of the first bands added to MVK Music Group’s managed artists roster, helping lay the foundation for what the company would become.
