Looking Back with MVK: 7 Stone Riot’s Hard Rock Journey

At MVK Music Group, we’ve had the privilege of working with a wide range of talented artists — and among those who helped define our passion for rock, 7 Stone Riot holds a special place in our story. Though the band disbanded around 2022, their impact on fans, stages, and the hard rock community endures.

Roots That Rocked Alabama and Beyond

7 Stone Riot was a five‑piece hard rock band hailing from Helena, Alabama — just outside of Birmingham — a city with deep musical roots. Formed in 2015, they quickly carved a name for themselves with powerful songs, explosive live energy, and a sound that blended raw grit with melodic hooks. 

Comprised of Whit Millsap (lead vocals), Reid Aldridge (lead guitar), Tyler Millsap (bass), Todd Millsap (guitar), and Skylar McCain (drums), the band drew influence from heavy modern rock and alternative metal, crafting music that resonated with fans of acts like Shinedown, Breaking Benjamin, and Sevendust. 

Breaking Through with “Scratching The Surface”

Their first studio EP, Scratching the Surface (2018), was a defining moment for 7 Stone Riot. Recorded with multi‑platinum producer Rick Beato and engineer Ken Lanyon, the EP captured the band’s blend of underground grit and mainstream sensibility. Songs like “Talking in Circles,” “Blind,” and the title track showcased the group’s intense musicianship and lyrical depth. 

The title track’s official music video brought that fiery spirit to life visually, exploring themes of resilience and struggle as the band pushed themselves forward against all odds. 

Evolution and Creativity in “Manipulation”

In 2020, 7 Stone Riot released the compelling single “Manipulation,” a track that further demonstrated their evolving sound and artistic vision. Written and recorded during the pandemic, the band transformed a garage into a makeshift studio to track instruments and vocals, ultimately creating a track that balanced heavy tones with thoughtful commentary on perception and influence. 

The accompanying music video embraced a dark, narrative style — complete with haunting visuals and symbolic storytelling — reflecting the band’s commitment to pushing beyond traditional rock presentation. 

Live Energy and Stage Presence

Whether in packed clubs or festival settings, 7 Stone Riot brought high‑octane performances that left audiences wanting more. Their live shows were built on a foundation of tight musicianship, passionate delivery, and a genuine connection with fans — characteristics that earned them praise and loyal support during their active years. 

One of MVK Music Group’s First Managed Bands

7 Stone Riot was one of the first bands signed to MVK Music Group, making their journey with us especially meaningful. Hailing from Birmingham, Alabama — the same part of the state where MVK co-owner Brian Paul grew up — the band’s connection to home and shared roots created a natural bond.

“7 Stone Riot will always hold a special place in my heart,” says Brian Paul. “Being one of the first bands we signed to MVK, and coming from the same part of Alabama where I grew up, made working with them feel like more than just a management relationship. It was personal. I’ll always be proud of the music we helped them create and the passion they brought to every stage.”

A Legacy That Lives On

Though 7 Stone Riot officially called it a day in 2022, their music continues to live on. Tracks like Scratching the Surface, Time Will Tell, and Manipulation remain available on streaming platforms, a testament to the band’s creativity and the enduring power of rock. 

Many fans still discover their work for the first time today — a reminder that great music never truly fades.
